Ms. Anne Bethany

Senior Designer

ABC Bridal Shop - Denver

1955 W 35th Avenue, Denver, CO — 80211

Dear Ms. Bethany,

At the end of my internship in your New York store, Meg Rhyan recommended I contact you about an Associate Fashion Designer post that just opened up. Your company culture made such an impression on me that I hoped to continue with the company in a fulltime role.

My CAD, Microsoft Excel & Time Management skills make me a strong candidate for this role.

  • Computer Aided Design: translated fashion illustrations into flats using Adobe illustrator
  • Microsoft Excel: created, edited and sent line sheets in Microsoft excel
  • Time Management: completed CAD, BOM & PLS for each design in 3 working days or less.

At your convenience, I look forward to speaking with you. Please review my portfolio at AnnieSummer.com/portfolio.  I’m available for interviews Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern time.

Sincerely,

Annie Summer

Associate Fashion Designer

Resume writer’s notes about this cover letter

  • In this cover letter opening, I made use of a personal connection in the company to set this applicant apart. The fact that she had also completed an internship with the same company and was merely seeking to switch departments made this even stronger.
  • This cover letter came in short and direct without being aggressive. The business-like tone that gets to the point shows respect for the readers time and clarity in the applicant’s goals. Translation: lose the fluff.
  • This applicant left a link to her portfolio right in her cover letter. This is a great move in case her resume is lacking in any area. Wowing the reader with what the applicant can do is likely to make the hiring manager more lenient towards any shortcomings in the applicant’s resume
